Stop Buying Tickets To The Circus

Your best friend and her man just broke up and she’s giving you and the rest of the girls a play by play on what went down. After she explains how her ex broke her heart, you and the rest of the crew join in unison and shout “men ain’t sh*t and ain’t never gonna be sh*t.”

The Importance of Teaching The African Diaspora

Sitting at my desk, blankly staring into the projector showcasing tons of so-called American heroes, trying hard to stay awake and wondering why I hate history class so much.

Let the Black kids escape too

It feels like all recent coming-of-age films such as (but not limited to) Booksmart, Love Simon, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and Sierra Burgess is a Loser all revolve around superficial and effortlessly watchable topics. The films tell stories of teenagers whose most significant problems revolve around their grades’ status and where the next hot party will take place.

"Black joy: A Form of Activism"

Last year was such a solemn and somewhat bittersweet year for individuals of African descent. It was great to see everybody get informed or at least pretend like they were here for the cause. "Correct Them If They're Wrong"

I have a habit of holding my breath when the teacher gets to my name when calling the roll. Shortening my name to make it easier for others when they are addressing me. Letting people slide when they mispronounce my name but are somewhat close to being right, so I just say “close enough” and keep it pushing.

Learning in Love

Almost three months ago I entered my first real-life relationship (yes y’all, the lord pulled your girl out of the singles’ club and blessed her with a king). While this new relationship has been full of love and numerous moments of vulnerability, it has been a true learning experience.

Why This Is Us is the best thing on TV right now

In the era of “I’m good love, enjoy” and “delete that paragraph and just say OK,” a visual of individuals being given the space to be vulnerable and to simply breathe is necessary. No other show currently on television beautifully displays vulnerability and how difficult life can be like This Is Us.
